Booking Your Appointment

Booking Your Appointment

  • $100 nonrefundable. Credited toward your final invoice if you keep your appointment.

Booking fees are used to secure your appointments for editing, proofreading, alpha/beta reading, and other services. These fees are nonrefundable unless Devon cancels the appointment.

    Websites are half up front.

Formatting does not need a booking fee or appointment because formatting is usually a same-day service.

Booking fees DO go toward your service. For instance, if you pay your $100 booking fee, that guarantees your reservation. If you do not have your manuscript ready by at least 10 days before your contracted date, you forfeit your booking fee, and will be required to pay another to secure your next appointment. This is case-by-case because life happens, and I get it.

  • Due to the nature of our digital products and subscriptions, we do not offer refunds of any kind for any fulfilled service or delivered product. If you are unhappy with your service, please contact Devon to make it right. You can usually find them in Messenger or email them at devon.vesper@gmail.com.

Gift certificates are non-refundable and have no cash value beyond this store.

    All sales are final.

If you have secured a service appointment with a booking fee: booking fees are non-refundable unless Devon cancels. If you cancel or reschedule within ten business days of your scheduled appointment, you forfeit the booking fee and must remit another booking fee to reschedule your appointment.

If Devon cancels, you will receive a full refund unless it is for something you did not warn them about such as trigger warnings.

If you have any questions, please contact us at devon.vesper@mail.com.devon.vesper@mail.com

  • Devon understands emergencies. If you need them to pull extra time on holidays, e.g. certain bank holidays, or their marked holy days, they are more than willing to accommodate you for a fee of $80 per day. This fee is on top of the fee for the service you are purchasing and the rush fee.

  • Normal rates are 14 Business Days. Anything under 14 business days is subject to a rush fee added to your total.

    10-12 Business Days

    • + $75 added to your total

    7-9 Business Days

    • + $100 + $0.002 per word added to your total

    3-5 Business Days

    • + $125 + $0.002 per word added to your total

  • Need to see if I have any cancellations because you’re in a hurry? Here’s how. Note that this is in addition to rush rates if you need your edits back sooner than 14 business days.

Priority—You want Devon to keep you on a cancellation list for a week to see if anything opens up.

    • + $80 added to your total

Emergency—You need it right now, and you need Devon to temporarily set aside a current client to focus on your book. This incurs rush rates per the FAQ above as well as the emergency fee.

    • + $150 added to your total

    • 100% Money Back Guarantee

    • Ask Devon for help writing up your Designer Brief to get the cover you’re envisioning. Devon can help ensure you have a ready-to-go brief to give your GetCovers designer while still giving the artist artistic license to make things awesome. We understand that designers who have fun and are given meaningful choices make better art. We’ll help you straddle the line between word-vomit and vague. ($80.)

  • $80.

This is a service to help you condense the elements of your story most important to you and your vision into a coherent brief for your cover designer. This will go much easier if you have a firm grip on what your genre and subgenre(s) are, what your genre expectations are, and have half an idea of what kind of main model you want. But Devon will definitely help you through all that if you’re stuck.

  • I have certain triggers that I have incredibly hard times editing or reading.

Here is a decently curated list of trigger warnings.

Here are my views on some of the more prevalent triggers that affect me.

    • MM BDSM

      • If it’s done right with consent, after care, etc., I can’t get enough of it. Gimme.

      • Non- or dub-con are not BDSM and I won’t read them. BDSM is all about explicit and enthusiastic consent.

      • I prefer all BDSM stories to only be M/M. If yours is M/F, please contact me before booking.

      • I will not read F/F BDSM due to unrelated past trauma.

    • MM Incest

      • My favorite is twincest, but I also love father/son if they are done right.

      • I will not read any F/F or M/F incest.

    • Abuse

      • Sexual abuse is usually a hard limit.

        • I do not consider incest as sexual abuse in fiction.

          • I DO consider incest as sexual abuse in real life. Remember the golden rule: Don’t kink shame people’s reading preferences.

        • I do not consider BDSM (as defined above) as sexual abuse.

        • Non- or Dub-Con are hard limits. I won’t read them.

      • Emotional abuse is sometimes hard for me to read. Please let me know in advance so I can gear myself up for it.

Editing

These are listed in the order in which they should be performed.

  • $15 per hour with a 1-hour minimum.

Developmental Editing is where you come to me with an idea, some plot points, and I help you develop the story by asking questions, giving suggestions, and helping you put it all together into a cohesive series plot, book 1 plot, and book 1 outline so you can hit the ground running, writing like the badass you are.

  • $0.005/word or $5/1000 words.

This is where I read through your unedited book to tell you:

    • What I liked and why.

    • What I didn’t like and why.

    • What I think would make the story stronger.

    • Things I think should be cut.

    • Glaring things story-wise that need addressed such as plot holes.

    I will NOT tell you:

    • Grammar, syntax, punctuation, missing or misused words, or other copy editing errors.

    • Fixes for sentence structure or readability.

    • Fact checking.

For this, your book does NOT have to be edited or even finished. If your book is finished and self-edited, you’ll benefit more from Beta Reading.

  • $0.004/word or $4/1000 words.

This is where I read through your book to tell you:

    • What I liked and why.

    • What I didn’t like and why.

    • What I think would make the story stronger.

    • Things I think should be cut, and why.

    • Glaring things story-wise that need addressed such as plot holes.

    I will NOT tell you:

    • Grammar, syntax, punctuation, missing or misused words, or other copy editing errors.

    • Fixes for sentence structure or readability.

    • Fact checking

Note that beta reading gets self-edited, finished books. If you have not yet edited or finished your books, you need alpha reading.

  • $0.02 per word with a 30,000-word minimum.

This is what developmental editing normally consists of:

    • Noting plot holes

    • Hand-smacking for overuse of exposition

    • Reality checks (Physics is a thing. Do the thing.)

    • Hand-waving checks (sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn’t)

    • Checks for emotions matching the actions

    • Random llama checks (ie. things that stick out like a sore thumb / things that don’t belong)

    • “Where’d it go?” checks (the case of the missing dog/best friend/side character/etc.)

    • Constructive commentary on parts that work exceptionally well, and parts that don’t work at all, and why.

    • Ideas on how to fix the issues we found.

    • Any checks you specifically ask for (apart from grammar, punctuation and other line/copy editing stuffs)

    • A week of email support when you start edits after I return my notes and editor’s report to you.

  • $0.01 per word. 30,000-word minimum.

    • Grammar

    • Spelling

    • Capitalization

    • Punctuation

    • Syntax

    • Light line edits *

    * Line edits consist of restructuring hard to understand sentences to address concerns regarding readability, understandability, and incorrect sentence structures.

  • $0.006 per word. 30,000-word minimum.

Here, proofreading consists of going over your manuscript for things your copy editor missed with grammar, capitalization, etc. plus anything glaring in the story that might need addressed.

If Devon notices it does not look like you had the manuscript copy edited, Devon will contact you with copy edit rates and provide examples as to why they are changing your contract. You have the option of canceling with Devon and taking it up with your copy editor, or having Devon continue in a copy editor capacity.

  • $0.45 per minute.

Devon is nit-picky and anal retentive. They go through audio quickly noting sound quality changes, mispronounced words, audio errors, and narrator mistakes.

Please allow a two-week minimum turnaround time.

Formatting

  • NOTE before you get started: Vellum is ONLY available for Fiction and simple Nonfiction formatting. If you have a Nonfiction book with complicated table of contents or other complicated formatting needs, it is beyond the scope of Vellum.FICTION AND SIMPLE NONFICTION ONLY

Vellum is a formatting software that enables your formatter to format your book in under half an hour with gorgeous, pre-built styling options. (See below.) They then send your files back to you either same day or the next so you can easily and quickly make any changes your manuscript needs. However, it’s limited in what it can do.

    Per book: $65

Per Boxed Set of 1-3 books: $95 (plus $5-$10 for each additional book)

Per Boxed Set (If we have previously formatted your individual books): $75 total as it’s mostly drag and drop existing files into a new document and making it pretty.

This includes: epub, mobi, and print-ready PDF file

    Default Graphics

Vellum comes with different styles, each with customizable headers, ornamental breaks, etc. You have a choice of pre-selected styles, each with their own default graphics. If you do not like a style, you can change it to another default style at no extra charge.

    Custom Graphics

This means chapter heading images, ornamental scene breaks, etc.

    • If you want custom and you supply the images, it’s $15 added to your final cost.

    • If you want me to create the images but you are supplying the stock links from Depositphotos.com, it’s $50 added to your final cost.

    • If you want me to create the images but I have to find the stock, it’s $100 added to your final cost.

  • Devon uses the Ultimate FAQ plugin. The free version usually has enough functionality for 98% of FAQs. A premium option is available if needed for $67 from the plugin’s website.
